Subaru Reaches For The Skies With Air Mobility Concept

The Airspeeder also doesn’t use a purely electric powertrain, instead opting for a hydrogen electric one. We imagine this is due to the need to refuel quickly and save weight, and it would be interesting to see if Subaru considers the technology as well. Subaru hasn’t really dabbled in hydrogen tech, at least publicly, but one of its minority owners has – Toyota.

The company has been testing hydrogen-like crazy in motorsport and consumer applications whether that be hydrogen fuel cell or hydrogen combustion. The hydrogen-fuel-cell-powered Mirai has also been on sale in California for years now and underwent a significant update in 2022.

Toyota has more experience with this tech than basically any other automaker in the world, so it’s always possible some of that knowledge could make its way over to Subaru given the two companies already share tech in vehicles like the BRZ/GR86 and Solterra/bZ4X
