Hyundai is not typically recognized for producing sports cars. Instead, they are renowned for crafting affordable family vehicles that are accessible to everyone and easy to maintain. In the past, Hyundai struggled to compete with Maruti Suzuki, who dominated the market. Due to the high cost, sports cars were not popular in India, and only a few enthusiasts imported them. Nonetheless, a rare Tiburon RD2 sports car, manufactured by Hyundai, has surfaced in India, and Car Crazy India has uploaded images of it on Instagram.

The sports car was never officially sold in India, so it is likely that it was imported to the country. The “RD2” in the name indicates that it is the second generation of the Tiburon model. The second generation was available in international markets from 1991 to 2001 and was marketed under different names. In Europe and the Middle East, it was referred to as the Hyundai Coupe, while in South Korea and Indonesia, it was known as the Tuscani.

The Tiburon was a two-door coupe with four seats, although the rear seats were not practical for adult passengers, they could be used for storing luggage. The vehicle in the images is painted in Cobalt Blue, which was the official color name used by Hyundai at the time of its release. The front of the car features various individual lighting elements. There are two circular headlamps with turn indicators on the side. The lower part of the bumper has fog lamps, and smaller lights are situated between the headlights and fog lights. These smaller lights may be used as cornering lights. The grille is sleek and small, adorned with the Hyundai logo. A broad lower air dam is positioned between the fog lamps to supply cold air to the engine.

On the side profile, we can see the coupe’s two doors and simple character lines. The Tiburon features 5-spoke wheels finished in gray, which complement the car’s overall appearance. At the rear, a spoiler enhances the vehicle’s sporty look. The tail lamps are simple, with the brake light occupying most of the area, and the turn indicators and reversing light positioned in the lower part of the light assembly. The rear bumper design is sporty and features a circular exhaust on the right side. In the center of the boot lid, there is a Hyundai badge, and the vehicle’s name is on the left. Additionally, there is a keyhole to unlock the boot lid.

The Hyundai Coupe had two petrol engine options, a 1.6-litre and a 2.0-litre engine. The 1.6-litre engine generated a maximum power of 111 hp, whereas the 2.0-litre engine produced a more potent 137 hp of maximum power and a peak torque output of 182 Nm. The car was equipped with a 4-speed automatic gearbox or a 5-speed manual gearbox, both of which transmitted power to the front wheels. The automatic gearbox could reach a top speed of 198 kmph and accelerate to 100 kmph in 10.7 seconds. The manual gearbox, on the other hand, was quicker, with a top speed of 201 kmph and a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 8.6 seconds.
