Harrier ADAS update

Tata launched the facelifted versions of the Harrier and Safari in the market last year. A detailed first-drive review of both SUVs is available on our website. Besides the revised exterior design and interiors, Tata also introduced several new features with the Harrier, one of which is ADAS. It offers 10 features as part of the ADAS suite. Although this is fewer than the competition, it seems customers can unlock more features in their Harrier. Here we have a post where a Harrier owner recently unlocked two new ADAS features in his Harrier.

Harrier ADAS update

The post was shared by Prachit Patil in the Tata Harrier Owners Club India on Facebook. In this post, the owner mentions that he recently updated the Lane Keep Assist (LKA) feature on his Harrier Fearless Plus variant.

He mentions that it took him three hours to complete the update. The actual update took only one hour; the rest of the time was spent on formalities at the service center.

As part of enabling LKA, three updates were applied to his SUV: the ECU module was updated, the Front Camera module was tuned and updated, and finally, the infotainment screen was updated to version 15.18. He notes in the post that after the update, he now sees two new features in his car: Adaptive Steering Assist and Lane Keep Assist.

These two features are not part of the ADAS package that Tata currently offers with the Harrier. The current version of the Harrier comes with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Detection, Door Open Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Alert, High Beam Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Tata does not offer features like Adaptive Cruise Control with the Harrier and Safari. The Harrier owner posted that he unlocked two new features which are quite useful when driving on highways. Lane Keep Assist ensures that the vehicle doesn’t change lanes even if the driver is distracted for some reason.

The Adaptive Steering Control helps the driver maintain proper vehicle control and traffic spacing. The owner mentioned in his post that he is yet to test these features on a highway and will update other users about his experience after he gets a chance to try them out.

ADAS features have now become extremely common on SUVs in this segment. It was actually the Mahindra XUV700 that introduced Level 2 ADAS features, and after that, nearly every other manufacturer followed suit. Now, there are few cars in this segment that don’t offer ADAS features.

These features are included to make the driver’s experience easier on the road and to reduce the number of accidents. However, we have seen several videos in the past where people misuse these features. The post mentions that the owner took the car to a service center, but it’s unclear if it was an authorized service center or a tuning shop specializing in ADAS features.

These features can also be unlocked on the Tata Safari, as both vehicles use the same 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine that generates 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque.
