Remember the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV? You know, the long-awaited “affordable” electric crossover that General Motors announced back in 2022 with a $30,000 price tag? Well, it’s still a few months away. CarBuzz obtained a vehicle locator sheet for an Equinox EV RS, which we believed was on-route to a dealer (based on it showing an event code 4200), finished in Onyx Black with an Adrenaline Red interior (a color from the Corvette).
Chevy has since confirmed, “we have not yet begun customer deliveries – but we’re getting ready to in the coming months. We will start with most trims at first, and all trims are planned to be available this calendar year.”
This news isn’t exactly secret since there are currently 89 Equinox EV units listed for sale nation-wide, though none of them have been shipped to dealers yet. Only the top 3RS trim level is showing up online, since that was the first trim dealers could order, with the least expensive model showing a $47,495 list price, which is higher than Chevy’s claimed $46,795 starting MSRP for the 3RS FWD trim (likely due to options).
Chevy later opened up dealer orders for all but the base 1LT, meaning that most trims will be available when the Equinox goes on sale later this year.
Waiting For The Affordable One
The Equinox EV will qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit, which will effectively pull the 3RS trim below the $40,000 mark. However, that’s still a far cry from what Chevy initially promised with the Equinox EV. The company originally teased a $30,000 starting price, but backtracked on that number in late 2023. A new starting price of $34,995 was set for the base 1LT FWD trim, but Chevy said that model wouldn’t arrive until late 2024.

Chevy still hasn’t launched a consumer-facing build & price tool for the Equinox EV yet, meaning we can’t see what options these cars are equipped with and how much those add-ons costs beyond the starting MSRPs. Judging by how late GM was to launch a configurator for the Blazer EV and Lyriq, it may be a while before customers can go online to build an Equinox EV.
No AWD & No 1LT Trim
Every Equinox EV listed for sale either specifies front-wheel-drive or doesn’t list the drivetrain at all. The FWD Equinox produces 201 horsepower from its single electric motor, while the AWD version adds a rear motor that combine to deliver 290 hp. Chevy says the FWD version will travel up to 319 miles on a single charge, while AWD drops that number to 285 miles.
