Meet Hari Lal, a guy from Ponkunnam (Kottayam) in Kerala, who procures used Pajeros from states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab and sells them in the South Indian state. He says he has been an admirer of the SUV and has also owned both SFX and GLX Pajeros over the years.
It is common for any auto enthusiast to get lured by the butch stance and massive road presence of the Pajero and wish to own one at some point in time. With the brand having exited India and the SFX not on sale any more, the only resort remains trustworthy used car dealers like this guy. He does both procured inventory sales and park and sale formats.
Hari Lal is an entrepreneur based in computers and electronics and started dealing in Pajeros as a passion project. He says the procurement process involves careful inspection and further that he only sells inventory that is in decent/good condition. He adds that he would get the vehicle into the shape and form preferred by the owner. The Pajeros sold will either have valid NOCs or proper re-registration at the time of handover. This means the owners will be saved from any legal headaches during ownership.
Harilal’s business includes procuring 3 vehicles at a time and making sure that they have at least 2 pieces of inventory at any given point in time. Depending on the condition, model year and work done on them, the Pajero SFX costs 7- 9.5 lakh. This, if you see, is a good price point for someone’s dream car.
He started his used car business in 2022, in the post-Covid setting. Since then, he has sold /referred as many as 50 Pajeros. Lately, he’s been structuring it into a proper scalable business. This means that the customer now gets better assurance and support from the dealer end. He also promises home deliveries for his customers, anywhere in India. Those who are on the lookout for an SFX could probably show up at his home and do first-hand inspections of the inventory.
Should You Consider Buying A Pajero SFX?
Well, the most direct answer to that question is ‘depends on where you stand in terms of resources (both time and money) and how good you are at sourcing the vehicle and its parts. For the latter, people like this guy could be of use. For resources, however, you’ll have to hustle or build up a passive income stream!
Does that mean it is expensive to maintain a Pajero SFX? It isn’t too expensive, nor is it any cheap. However, the costs seem reasonable for a vehicle of its class. The SUV demands proper attention like greasing, at regular intervals. The suspension setup (especially its bushes) might also require proper maintenance. Talking about the fuel efficiency, the SFX would return 8-10 kpl. Interestingly, a brand-new Fortuner would also deliver comparable fuel efficiency.
