Modified Maruti 800

The Maruti 800 is an iconic hatchback in Indian automotive history. It was the first car owned by many middle-class Indian families, and many people reading this story probably learned to drive in one as well. The Maruti 800 was officially discontinued in 2014 for various reasons. Although it was discontinued a decade ago, it is not hard to find well-kept or modified examples of this small hatchback in India. Here we have one such video where an old Maruti 800 has been modified to look like a Volkswagen Golf GTI.

The video has been shared by Dajish P on his YouTube channel. In this video, we see a heavily modified Maruti 800 hatchback finished in a glossy black shade. The black paint job looks extremely good and gives the car a sporty look. The first thing you’ll notice on this car is the grille.

The stock grille has been modified in such a way that it reminds you of the Volkswagen Golf from certain angles. The original rectangular headlamps on the Maruti 800 have been replaced with round aftermarket units. The headlamps also come with integrated ring-type LED DRLs.

There is no Maruti badging at the front. Moving down, the front bumper of the car has also been modified. It looks like the bumper is made from steel sheets and has been fabricated as per the customer’s request at the workshop.

There is a mesh grille on the lower portion of the car. Moving to the side profile, we notice the fender flares and wide aftermarket alloy wheels. The wheels have a negative camber, giving the car a low, aggressive stance. The owner has opted for 13-inch wheels and tires for this hatchback.

Modified Maruti 800

At the rear, we see more modifications. The car has a new set of stock tail lamps and a new cycle rack. Apart from that, there is a badge from “Carbon Racing” on the car. Other minor custom elements include the pin lock on the bonnet, a feature commonly seen in rally cars.

Inside, the car retains the same dashboard as the stock Maruti 800. It is likely a work-in-progress project, and the video we see here is four years old. The cabin theme is red, which includes the seats and door panels. The car now has bucket seats, and the manual gearshift lever is from Sparco. The windows are also tinted.

Regarding the engine, it is unclear if any modifications have been made. The exhaust on this car is definitely aftermarket and loud, likely to attract a lot of attention on the road. The exact cost of this modification is unknown, but it is likely more than the cost of the car itself.

It’s worth noting that modification is still illegal in India, and driving modified cars on public roads is considered an illegal act. However, car enthusiasts across the country continue to modify their cars without too much of an issue as authorities step in only if modifications are too extensive.
