Alto modified to look like Smart Roadster

Car modification is an art; however, as per Indian law, any type of modification is considered illegal. There are several workshops that specialize in exterior modifications. Some workshops perform minor modifications, while others completely transform the look of the car as per customer request. In India, many workshops even do fabrication work or build custom panels to achieve desired results. Here, we have one such video where a Maruti Alto 800 hatchback has been completely transformed into a weird-looking car.

The video has been shared by Magneto 11 on his YouTube channel. The Maruti Alto 800 has been customized or modified to achieve a look similar to the Smart Roadster Coupe, a 2-door sports car that was available in the European market. The modified car looks nothing like the original Maruti Alto; it has been completely transformed into a sports car, although not an exact replica.

The workshop fabricated the front end of the Maruti Alto, replacing it with two vertically placed round headlamps. The U-shaped, grey-colored strip at the front has also been made with metal. It even runs around the vertically placed headlamps.

Moving down, the car’s front bumper features an air dam with fog lamps and LED turn indicators on each side. None of the lights used on the car are stock; they are all aftermarket units. We are unsure whether the car is equipped with a projector headlamp setup or not. Coming to the side profile, the workshop has made significant efforts to completely change the car’s appearance.

Similar to the front, the side profile of the car also has a different look and doesn’t resemble the donor car at all. A white strip, as tall as the car, surrounds the door, similar to the Smart Roadster. The original 4-door Maruti Alto has been converted into a 2-door car. The door handles are from the Alto, while the car now features 13-inch aftermarket alloy wheels.

At the rear, there is a small quarter panel, a slightly slanting roof, aftermarket tail lamps, turn indicators, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a number plate area. Overall, the car has a rounded exterior appearance. The workshop has definitely tried their best to get the design right.

While the workshop extensively worked on the exterior, it looks like they did not take the interiors seriously. It has a very basic-looking interior, with door pads wrapped in leatherette material with diamond pattern stitching.

The whole interior was finished in a dual-tone shade of Light Blue and Black. An aftermarket touchscreen infotainment system has been installed, and custom seat covers have been added. The dashboard remains unchanged from the original Alto.

The workshop has done a good job at replicating the exterior look of the Smart Roadster Coupe. However, the same cannot be said for the interiors. They have done their best with the limited resources that they had. Many workshops go for pre-built body kits for such customizations. In this case, the panels were all made in-house, which is a huge task in itself. The exact time required and cost involved in building this project is not mentioned in the video. This is not the first time, we have seen such a video on the internet. We examples where people have actually built Lamborghinis out of Honda Civic sedan and also a video of fake Rolls Royce from Pakistan had also gone viral.
