While India boasts several world-class highways and expressways, one thing that many people still lack is a sense of responsible driving. Lane discipline is not a common practice in cities or on highways, as reckless driving often prevails, leading to accidents. Moreover, the risk of encountering jaywalkers, livestock, and stray dogs on the roads is ever-present. In this video, we witness a terrifying incident where a truck nearly pushed a Toyota Fortuner SUV off a flyover. Fortunately, the SUV owner survived the accident and provides a detailed account of the harrowing experience.
Arun Panwar shared the video on his YouTube channel, where he interviews the Toyota Fortuner’s driver involved in the accident. The vehicle’s owner is also from Haryana and was driving on an elevated road near Palwal around 12:30 am. As he ascended the flyover, he noticed a truck ahead of him. Unfortunately, the truck driver was hogging the right lane, which was inappropriate. Left with no alternative, the Fortuner driver had to pass the truck from the left side.
The Fortuner driver signaled and commenced overtaking the truck. However, as he was about to complete the maneuver, the truck unexpectedly swerved into the left lane without giving any indication. The Fortuner driver had insufficient time to react, and the truck’s trailer had already collided with the SUV’s door. Subsequently, the truck pinned the SUV against the flyover’s wall, dragging it along. Astonishingly, the truck driver remained oblivious to this perilous situation. The SUV eventually teetered on the flyover’s safety wall, nearly toppling over. It appears that the truck driver may have fallen asleep while operating the vehicle.
Finally, the truck driver realized the collision and abruptly came to a halt. It is still not clear whether the truck driver failed to see the car behind him or did he simply fell asleep. The Toyota Fortuner owner, alone in the SUV, remained inside because he was uncertain if the vehicle would tip over. He promptly called emergency services, while the truck driver, who had fled the scene, also contacted the nearest police station to report the accident. Eventually, the car’s driver managed to escape through the driver’s side window since the doors were jammed.
The owner expressed immense relief that he survived such a major accident and marveled at how well the SUV protected him. The vehicle sustained damage to the bonnet, side panels, tires, and alloys. This incident marked the owner’s first experience with such a severe accident, and it underscored the importance of a safe vehicle. He commended the 9-year-old Fortuner’s build quality and emphasized that he emerged from the accident without even a minor injury. Even after the accident, the car started but, it looks like the engine oil and other fluids have leaked. He plans to purchase more Toyota products in the future and intends to have the car repaired and restored at an authorized service center. An official case has also been registered in this matter against the truck driver.
