Trump's 1997 Lamborghini Diablo - Barrett-Jackson 2024 Scottsdale Auction Preview

A unique piece of automotive and American presidential history, this 1997 Lamborghini Diablo VT roadster, is set to be auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson 2024 Scottsdale event, taking place from January 20 to the 28th. This Diablo is not just a remarkable example of Lamborghini’s engineering excellence but also a vehicle with a unique provenance, having been owned by former President Donald J. Trump.

One of only 132 produced for the U.S. market between 1997 and 1999, this Diablo VT continues Lamborghini’s tradition of naming its cars after fighting bulls. It is named after a legendary bull that fought the famous matador “El Chicorro” in the 19th century. What sets this particular Diablo apart is its original owner – Donald J. Trump. Ordered new by Trump, who owned and drove it until the summer of 2002, this Diablo showcases a special connection between Trump and Lamborghini. He was allowed to custom-order this vehicle due to a special relationship with the automaker, which provided him with “loaner” Diablos for promotional purposes.

Uniquely, Trump requested the Diablo in a Blu Le Mans paint color, a shade not typically offered in 1997, making this the only Diablo painted in this color for that year. Additionally, it features a personalized “Donald Trump 1997 Diablo” plaque on the door, further marking its exclusivity.

Powered by a mid-mounted 5.7-liter 48-valve V12 engine, the Diablo produces 492hp at 7,000 rpm and 430 ft/lbs of torque. It’s equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and an all-wheel-drive system, featuring the Viscous Traction (VT) system for superior traction. This setup enables the car to sprint to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds, reaching a top speed of 202 mph.

Included in the sale are the car’s manuals/books, two tool bags, and a car cover. The vehicle has recorded 24,834 km/15,431 miles (title reads exempt) and has had two owners since Trump’s ownership. A CARFAX report notes a mileage inconsistency on 08/09/2003.

As this one-off, Trump-owned Diablo takes the stage at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, it represents a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of Lamborghini’s supercar legacy intertwined with a unique chapter of American presidential history.
