The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) wants regulators to take a “more realistic, consumer-friendly approach to adopting EVs.” The current proposal is deemed “too fast,” and the market is believed to be not ready for such a major adjustment. NADA is backing an effort by U.S. Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Mich, to delay the new EV regulations for one year.
“Wait for the battery supply chain to develop outside the control of China,” said in the letter sent Thursday. “Wait for the charging infrastructure to support a significant increase in electric vehicles. And wait for the American consumer to make the choice to buy an electric vehicle, confident that they are affordable and won’t strand them because of a lack of charging stations.”
The EPA proposal is expected to be finalized this year. A spokesperson said the agency cannot comment on the draft rule under review.
