The Volvo EX90 isn’t the only electric SUV to spawn an ultra-luxury variant with an extra-special rear seat—the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV also fills this role—but the EX90 Excellence puts a distinctly Swedish touch on the idea. Revealed for the Chinese market earlier this year, the EX90 Excellence features a plush interior and exterior to denote it as a step above the standard model.
To create the Excellence, Volvo took out the EX90’s third-row seat and swapped in a pair of luxurious thrones for the second row. They feature a massage function, heating and cooling, and even a pair of soft pillows. Between the seats is a refrigerator that’s perfectly sized for a bottle of Veuve Cliquot, as it were. The interior also features a special wool-blend upholstery, grained wood trim, and Orrefors crystal. You can spot the EX90 Excellence from the outside by its two-tone black and silver paint scheme and chunky 22-inch wheels.
Volvo has done this before, of course, with the XC90 Excellence that even was briefly sold in the U.S. We don’t think Volvo has any plans to bring this EX90 Excellence to our shores, but if it did, we’re sure the company could find a select few well-to-do customers interested in its creature comforts.
