The Porsche 356 carries the distinction of being the German marque’s first production model, but getting a pristine example these days is nearly impossible. That’s why most aficionados opt for a replica, otherwise known as outlaw builds, and this 356 is one of those that will make purists furious.
The owner, Chris, and his friend built the Porsche 356 over several years, with the donor car being a ’50s Volkswagen Beetle. He chose the car over a 911 because of its compact nature and timeless design.
From there, Chris removed the original VW body from the vehicle, leaving only the chassis. He then bought a replica kit of the 356, which included the body, doors, and hood. He bonded the VW chassis with the fiberglass body to create what you see here.
