Every automotive era goes through a cycle. Cars debut and they’re expensive, then over the next 15 -20 years they depreciate over and over again till you get rock bottom pricing. Suddenly, about 30-40 years on, prices rise again and eventually hold (but in the post-pandemic world of BaT and CaB who really knows,) and so on, and so on. When many lamented the lack of good, cheap enthusiast vehicles, people were quick to point out the glut of cheap, RWD, manual cars that existed in the 90s. Now, the prices of half-decent models of the era make your head spin, and that’s before you consider every bushing, bracket, and seal in the car is pushing close to or past 30 years old. Is the 90s golden age finally behind us?

According to JD Power, the brands with the most problems per 100 vehicles are Tesla, Chrysler, Audi, Land Rover, Volkswagen, Lincoln, Volvo, and Ford. The most reliable brands are Lexus, Toyota, Buick, Chevrolet, Mini, Porsche, Mazda, and Kia. But opinions sometimes differ based on user experience – are there brands on either of these lists that have proven to be the opposite?

We’re fortunate to live during a time when there are more hybrid vehicle options on the market than ever before, but more options can be a mixed bag.
