Why does the US not have more CNG cars?

There are not a lot of CNG (compressed natural gas) vehicles in the US because there’s not much of an infrastructure to support refueling these vehicles. They do exist, but not for sale by mainstream automakers for the average person. Instead, you’ll find CNG heavy-duty and medium-duty trucks generally used in fleets for commercial purposes. How likely are you to buy a CNG car if they do become mainstream?
