World Record $15M License Plate Sells At Auction For Charity

While priceless supercars and hypercars seem to be a dime a dozen in Dubai, the most competitive and expensive category for collectibles is license plates. Although the cost for an everyday license plate in Florida costs a mere $225, members of middle eastern royalty shell out astronomical amounts of money to secure the lowest numbered license plate. In 2008, Dubai’s No. 1 plate was reportedly sold at auction to a billionaire businessman for $14.3 million, making it the most expensive license plate ever sold. That record remained intact until today after Emirates Auction sold Dubai’s P7 plate number during the ‘Most Noble Numbers’ organized charity event.

The coveted numbered license plate sold in a packed room full of willing bidders for a whopping $15 million, making it the most expensive number in the world. The sale has already been documented as a new world record with the Guinness Book of Records. The auction house is pleased to announce that the proceeds will go directly towards supporting the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign, which aims to establish the largest Ramadan sustainable food aid endowment fund. Now that the $15 million P7 license plate is in the new owner’s possession, we are excited to see what supercar or hypercar it will go on.
