World's Ugliest Car Gets 6x6 Special Edition After 25 Years

The special edition was penned by Head of Stellantis Heritage Roberto Giolito, who designed the 1998 model. When sketching the car more than 25 years ago, he came up with six personalities that would inform how the highly versatile people mover would be designed: a businessman, an explorer, a monk, a free-spirited rebel, a lady preparing for a night out, and a child imagining itself driving the car when it grows up.

These characters each have different requirements for a car, and Fiat wanted to satisfy all of them with a versatile machine that was comfortable, spacious, and practical.

The Multipla achieved that brief, and this is why it’s being celebrated. The eventual buyer won’t be someone who fell in love with its looks but rather an individual who appreciates what the Multipla stood for and how innovative the concept was. It may have been weirdly styled, but it was brilliantly designed, and that’s the key.
