Upon launch in China, the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan will rival the likes of BMW i4 and Tesla Model 3.
Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has stepped into the world of car manufacturing. Recently, images of its first electric vehicle (EV) got leaked on the government fillings by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), China. Called Xiaomi SUV7, this electric car will be contract-manufactured by Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd (BAIC).
The electric sedan will be retailed under the company’s popular smartphone brand Mi. As per reports, mass production of SUV7 is set to commence later in December this year with deliveries scheduled to begin February 2024 onwards. It will be available in three variants namely SU7, SU7 Pro and SU7 Max.

The images reveal that the SU7 gets a clean exterior look which takes a hint of inspiration from the latest McLarens, especially those sleek triangular headlights and the tapering bonnet are reminiscent of the 750S. Completing the front fascia is a prominent central air intake and small side vents housed within the front bumper.
The side profile also sports a clean and understated look with a coupe-like roofline sloping sharply backwards. There are noticeable flares around the front fender and rear haunches besides the star-studded alloy wheel pattern available in both 19- and 20-inch sizes.
The rear looks a bit sportier thanks to the integrated ducktail spoiler on the boot lid and a faux diffuser in the lower bumper. The other prominent highlight is a pair of slim wraparound LED taillights connected by a slim light bar. As for dimensions, the SUV7 measures 4,997mm in length, 1,963mm in width, 1,440mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,000mm. It weighs between 1,980-2,205kg, depending on the specification picked.

Being a product of Xiaomi, the SU7 is bound to be heavily loaded with tech such as a horizontally oriented central touchscreen infotainment system that runs on Xiaomi’s own HyperOS, offering a seamless integration between the phone and car. Besides, it also comes with a LiDAR sensor enabling autonomous driving capabilities.
Powering the SU7 is a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from BYD in entry-level trims whereas the higher trims will receive a larger NMC battery pack from CATL. However, Xiaomi is yet to confirm battery capacities and range on offer with SU7. The electric sedan will be available in two powertrain options— single motor and dual motor.
The former gets a rear-wheel drive motor with a peak output of 220kW (295 hp) with a claimed top speed of 210 kmph. The dual-motor setup is reserved for the top-spec trim which gets an all-wheel drive system with a combined output of 495kW (664 hp). This version claims a top speed of 265 kmph.
