The Mahindra Thar is currently one of the most popular 4×4 SUVs available in the Indian market. Ever since its launch in 2020, we have seen several videos featuring this SUV. It is a capable 4×4 SUV, and many videos posted online prove the same. We have written in many of our articles that driving a 4×4 SUV does not mean that your vehicle won’t get stuck anywhere. We have come across several articles in the past where SUVs have gotten stuck in sand and mud during off-road adventures. Here, we have a video of a YouTuber who tries to push his Mahindra Thar to its limits and attempts to drown it in a river. Did he succeed? Let’s check the video to find out.
The video has been uploaded by The Experiment TV on their YouTube channel. In this video, a vlogger and his friends take a Mahindra Thar petrol manual SUV to a riverbank. The idea is to drive the car into the river and see how the SUV performs. The driver mentions that he is aware of the fact that the electrical components in the car might malfunction if they come into contact with water. Not just that, even the engine in this SUV might get damaged due to water. However, the vlogger decides to proceed with the experiment. He gets into the Thar and starts driving it into the water.
Initially, the vlogger drives the SUV through sections that are less deep. He is not aware that the bottom of the river is full of mud, which makes it difficult for him to drive the SUV properly. Once he gets the hang of it, the vlogger increases the speed of the SUV. At this point, the water level reaches the front bumper of the Thar. The vlogger is satisfied with the overall performance and decides to drive it into a deeper section. He starts splashing water, and after a certain point, there is a steep drop. The vlogger is not aware of this and accidentally drives the car over it.

When the front of the SUV completely goes underwater, the vlogger and his friends become worried, thinking that the car might fully submerge. Fortunately, it was just a small drop, and the SUV doesn’t go in reverse, so the vlogger has to continue driving the car forward. He manages to do so. During this incident, the front grille and the bonnet of the SUV are completely submerged, and water starts entering the cabin.
The vlogger successfully drives the car out of the water without any problem. Luckily, the car is still functioning fine. However, the vlogger soon runs out of luck when he attempts to drive through the deeper section again. The wheels get stuck in the mud, and initially, the rear of the car is floating in the water. There is no traction, and water probably enters the air intake. The Mahindra Thar does not have any modifications, not even a snorkel. In the video, the vlogger later mentions that the Thar is not starting, and the instrument cluster shows several warning lights.
He then brings a tractor to pull the SUV out of the river and takes it to his studio. Driving SUVs through deep water without appropriate modifications is not recommended. The chances of damaging the ECU and other electrical sensors are quite high. If water enters the engine through the air intake, it becomes a major issue, and the owner will have to spend a significant amount of money to open the engine and remove the water.
