Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal had recently been in the news for an interesting initiative- he took up the role of a Zomato delivery partner and delivered orders in Gurgaon. The CEO then shared the pictures, videos and his experience on various social media handles. We thought that was it. But now, Deepinder has shared another video that shows how he was mistreated while picking up an order from a mall. This sheds light on one of the major ordeals of food delivery partners today.
During my second order, I realised that we need to work with malls more closely to improve working conditions for all delivery partners. And malls also need to be more humane to delivery partners.

The video shows the CEO going to pick up his second order during the activity. The pickup was from Haldiram’s in Ambience Mall in Gurugram. Together with his wife Grecia Muñoz, Goyal reached the mall, riding his Triumph Scrambler 400X. At the entrance, however, he is stopped by the security guard, and asked to take the ‘other exit’. The CEO later finds out that he is being asked to take the stairs instead of using the lift.
He goes on to check again if the mall has a dedicated lift for personnel and delivery partners, but fails to find one. Like other agents, Goyal then takes the stairs to the third floor. He soon finds out that as per the mall’s guidelines, the delivery partners have to wait at the stairs till their orders are ready. Deepinder can be seen chilling with other delivery partners, in the video. In the meantime, he collected in-depth feedback from them.
Towards the end of the video, the CEO says that he managed to sneak in to collect the order when the staircase guard decided to ‘take a small break’. And finally, the couple was out to deliver the order. The CEO says that he’s realised the dire need to work more closely with malls to ensure hospitable working environments for delivery partners. He further urged malls to ‘be more humane to delivery partners.’
Deepinder’s video shared on X has since gone viral. People can be seen sharing their thoughts and experiences. From the comments section, it is evident that food delivery agents are barred from entering lifts in many residential societies as well. People can also be seen talking in favour of these partners. One of them commented:
“Every society, every mall, and every office should make it mandatory for delivery partners to use regular elevators and entrances/exits. There shouldn’t be any divide.”
Unsurprisingly, there were people who criticized, just because they had to, like this person who commented: “I appreciate you did this, but it’s shocking that you’re only taking steps now after creating content on it. I’m sure this problem has been reported by partners for years, and even customers have been vocal about the mistreatment,”
