The second generation Peugeot 2008 was introduced in June 2019 and has become one of the top players in the highly competitive subcompact SUV (B-SUV) segment in Europe and other markets around the world. Now, the time has come for a mid-lifecycle update which will be unveiled on May 4, with the aim of enhancing the successful recipe with improved styling, technology, and efficiency.

Over the past few months, we’ve caught prototypes of the 2024 Peugeot 2008 testing on public roads, albeit with camouflage covering both ends. Our associates have now created realistic renderings of the small SUV, taking design cues from the latest models of the French brand.

The front of the small crossover is expected to get a larger body-colored grille, similar to the ones used on the 308, 4008, and 508, with Peugeot‘s new emblem. Other changes will include revised LED headlights with triple DRL fangs on the bumper, potentially with a more aggressive-looking lower intake. The profile will be similar to the current model, with fresh options for the alloy wheels and a different trim piece on the D-pillar. The tail is expected to feature mild visual updates focused on the LED taillight graphics.

The updated 2008 won’t feature the futuristic interior previewed by the Peugeot Inception concept, as it is a simple facelift rather than an all-new generation. Nevertheless, it is expected to bring improvements to the digital instrument cluster and infotainment hardware/software, along with more standard ADAS features and new trim options

The Peugeot 2008 and E-2008 are based on the CMP and eCMP architectures respectively, shared with other Stellantis subcompact SUVs. The facelift could introduce the mild-hybrid 1.2-liter PureTech engine from the 3008 and 5008 SUVs, available in two power outputs of 99 hp (74 kW / 100 PS) or 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS), with 15% lower fuel consumption. The single electric motor integrated within the new six-speed dual-clutch transmission produces 28 hp (21kW / 28PS) and 55 Nm (40.5 lb-ft) of torque, powered by an 898 Wh (432 Wh usable) battery.

There is a strong possibility that the 2008 will offer a higher-powered version of the non-electrified 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS) and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft) of torque. This engine debuted in the Opel Mokka in early 2023, exclusively available with a six-speed manual transmission, and could be an option to the mild-hybrid automatic. It is possible that the 1.5-liter BlueHDi diesel may be removed due to the upcoming stricter emission regulations.

It is expected that the E-2008 will receive an upgraded electric powertrain used in other Stellantis models, featuring a more powerful front-mounted electric motor producing 154 hp (115 kW / 156 PS) and the same 260 Nm (191.8 lb-ft) of torque. The combination of a more efficient motor and a larger 54 kWh battery pack (up from 50 kWh) is expected to provide the updated EV with a longer range of nearly 400 km (248 miles).

As mentioned, the official debut of the facelifted Peugeot 2008 is scheduled for May 4, which means that we don’t have to wait much longer to see it in the flesh. It also means that the small SUV will launch before the facelifted 208 supermini, showing its importance for the French brand.

Interestingly, the 2024 model year will see several facelifted subcompact SUVs, including the Renault Captur, Ford Puma, VW T-Cross, and Skoda Kamiq. We’ll have to wait and see if the updated Peugeot 2008 will be able to compete and attract buyers with its improvements.
